Empire Cinema Littleport (drawing by Kim Prior from an old photo)A public hall was built in 1888. It was a brick building with an ornamental front and seated 600. Films were screened here in 1898.
In late-1923 it was re-named Cinema Hall and in 1926 it was re-named Empire Cinema. The Empire Cinema was damaged by a fire in 1938 and never reopened. Troops were billeted there in WWII. After the war it was used as a granary. In 1988 the building was demolished and flats built.
The Littleport Society in 1989 published ‘A History of the Empire Cinema’ by Norman C Field.
