The largest Anglo-Saxon cemetery found in Cambridge was on the site of the St John’s playing fields. (A Taylor, Cambridge – The Hidden History p.40)
It was in use from the 5th to the 7th centuries and was mainly for cremations but there were also many inhumations. Although 100 urns were discovered it was thought that many more had been destroyed over the years.
