Broken Tech Broken Earth

Sasha Chapman is a software engineer for Orca Scan and has accumulated 4 years of experience there, originally starting off in their graduate programme.

After studying Theoretical Physics in Newcastle, Sasha highlights, “Many of my peers who studied a science subject found themselves drawn to working in tech. I think there are so many learning opportunities and room for growth in the tech sector.”

Sasha currently lives in Rushden so that she could be more commutable to Cambridge for work. Whilst working at Orca Scan, she made the most exploring the Cambridge sites after work and regularly attended dance classes in the area so that she could make some new friends and feel part of the local community. Now Sasha has developed a familiar and enjoyable routine in Cambridge and hopes to continue working in a city with so much opportunity for tech professionals.

This story was shared by a volunteer as part of the Broken Tech, Broken Earth project which aims to co-create events with the local community about the social, historical and environmental impacts of technology. This project is externally funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund as part of the Museum Association. The project is led by the Centre for Computing History, which is a registered educational charity and independent museum located in Cambridge. Our mission is to use our collections, displays, learning programmes, and events to engage the public with the developments in computing over the past 80 years.
