2a Millington Road, Crocroy, Cambridge

History of Crocroy

1911 Built as coach house to Croft Lodge

1933 Croft Lodge estate broken into smaller plots.

In 2026 QSF sent this note about the property:

The Ordnance Survey Name Books (1848-58) mention a small thatched cottage named Crocroy just west of Kirkconnel (between Dumfries and Kilmarnock), owned by the Duke of Buccleugh, but occupied by a shepherd named ‘James McKnight’.  That seems to be more than a coincidence. and I found other records of McKnights in the Kirkconnel area. The Name Books record also shows the Chamerlain to the Duke of Buccleugh offering the alternative spelling ‘Crockroy’, and the area can be found by that name on today’s OS maps.

1939 Crocroy, unnumbered

Miss M F McKnight, principal’s Secretary at Newnham College

1962 (2a) Crocroy

Miss M F McKnight

[Crocroy was converted from the original Croft Lodge coach house in 1936 by Miss Knight.]
