The Hartridge family (Hamilton, his wife Kathleen and their 4 children) lived there from at least 1920 (when it was listed on their son Gerald’s baptism record) or possibly earlier, until it was sold in 1928.

Dr Hamilton Hartridge FRS was a professor in physiology at the university. His daughter, Doreen Anne, did the illustrations for his anatomy publications and illustrations.

Among other topics Hamilton Hartridge had numerous papers published on the subject of bats and how they navigate, and was one of the first scientists to propose echolocation as their method, which paved the way for research into sonar.
