The Diaries of Josiah Chater

The Diaries of Josiah Chater

This project was started in 2023. A team of volunteers started to transcribe the diaries of Josiah Chater which he had begun in 1844.

Enid Porter had previously published excerpts and commentary on the diaries in her book ‘Victorian Cambridge,’ but no actual transcription of the diaries had existed.

There are numerous references to Josiah Chater and the stories he recorded in his diary throughout Capturing Cambridge.
