The Museum of Cambridge has an old vagrancy board which hung until after World War One on the wall of the first house in Rampton coming from the Willingham side of the village. Painted on it, under the heading Rampton, which told the traveller at which village he had arrived, are the words:
All Vagrants who are seen Begging in this Town will be Apprehended and Punished as the Law directs.
