1900 Bound Over CC&J 27.4.1900: Eliza Thurston, 16, Castle End was charged with assaulting Grace Smith, of 14, Vicarage Terrace, in Smart’s Row, on April 21st.— Complainant is the wife of Alfred Smith, labourer, in the employ of the Corporation. She said she was in ‘The Man in the Moon’ on the day in question, and defendant came in and taxed her with being drunk. Coming out defendant followed and struck her in the mouth with her fist. In Smart’s Row she spat in witness’s face and knocked her about again. Witness did not strike defendant at all.—Eliza King, wife of David King, labourer, living at 15, Vicarage Terrace, corroborated. Defendant alleged that Complainant took the initiative and struck her first.—The Bench bound both women over to keep the peace for six mouths.
