History of 238 Cherry Hinton Road

Frederick C Barker, 58, private means late publican, born Cambridge

Martha Barker, 56, (4 children, 1 died), born Cambridge

Ada C Johnson, granddaughter, 14, born Cambridge

This used to be the site of Tibbitts and Allen Ltd, the mechanical engineers. This company was formed in 1946 to manufacture small domestic articles. From this arose a demand for a large range of specialised components for the electrical, radio and instrument industries. The company expanded into premises in the Chesterton area.
