Elgood and Sons, Brewery, 69 – 72 North Brink, Wisbech

History of Elgood's Brewery

Listed Building:

Brewery built c.1795 by Denis Herbert of Royston.

Brewery offices; ground floor c.1800, first and second floors late C19 addition.

Late C18, or early C19 house. Double pile with symmetrical facade.

Horace died in Wisbech in 1933.

The brewery at North brink was established in 1795 and came under the control of the Elgood family in 1878.

WWI: the brewery was bombed by a Zeppelin.

WWII: some of its metal vats and tuns were melted down.
