Yown Street, Upwell, view from Church Bridge, c.1930 (Coates postcard) (Cambridgeshire Collection)

Town Street, Upwell

History of Town Street

Upwell is in Norfolk, right on the border with Cambridgeshire.

Upwell OS 1900.

there are two adjacent medieval stone buildings on the west side of Stone Street. They seem to be the remains of two separate properties or one large property consisting of a large hall lying parallel to the road with a rear wing at either end. They may have belonged to the Gilbertine Priory at Marmont, but were most likely attached to another larger but unknown house.
