History of Upwell

Ellen Garrison of Upwell was a supposed witch, as was her mother before her. She was hunted down by one of witchfinder general Matthew Hopkins’s men in 1645. A neighbour had reported becoming ill after quarrelling with Ellen Garrison. It was said that she was followed around by a black cat.
