‘Gallows Piece to Bee Garden – Millennium History of Dry Drayton’ was published in 2000 and is the definitive history of the village.

World War One (information from ‘Gallows Piece ….’)
Frederick Fenson: first fatality in the village. He died at the Battle of Loos. His brother Walter was invalided out of the army and died one month after the armistice.
July 1916: four Dry Drayton men died at the battle of the Somme, two on the first day.
1918 three men from the village died near Arras, two from the Hankin family.
William Hacker survived the Battle of the Somme but was shot in the leg. he was recused by two others from the village< Ern and Bert Ingle.
Stivvy Huddlestone lost a leg at the battle of the Somme. He was known to have become very agile on his crutches in later life.
Reg Thompson became well known for his ability to forage on French farms for milk and honey.
