Village Hall, Dry Drayton

History of the Village Hall

In 1923 a committee was set up under Arthur Frohock to buy an old army hut for leisure activities. A hut was bought for £70 and delivered by a steam-driven lorry from Felixstowe. It was finally erected in 1926 and became known as the Dry Drayton Institute.

Ballroom dances to live bands were regular events in the 1930s. n 1940 the Village Hall was requisitioned by the military but the dances continued with the RAF jazz band from Oakington.

In 1961 the old hall was replaced.
