Number 94 is one of four mid-terraced houses on the east side of Ainsworth Street, built around 1870.

A sketch map from 1874 indicates that the house was owned by Mr Banyard, most likely engine driver William Banyard, who lived next door at 92 Ainsworth Street from 1871 until his death in 1922.

The Franklin family moved here from 44 Ainsworth Street.

Unusually, the census officials in 1891 only gave initials for the father’s name and four of the sons. However, we can find out the full names from past and future census records.

14-year-old George, errand boy, could have been working for one of the bakers or grocers on Ainsworth Street, or one of the local shops or businesses close by on Mill Road or East Road or Newmarket Road.

Sarah died towards the end of 1891.  George remarried in 1893 to Mary Ann Forscutt. They were to have seven more children.

Bertie Franklin married Catherine Barrett from 88 Ainsworth Street in 1916. Arthur married Mary Ann Gibson in 1920 and moved to 98 Ainsworth Street.

George Harry Franklin died in June 1936, still living at no. 94.  He is buried in Mill Road Cemetery.
